Like many Americans, we are concerned about the implications of the war with Iran. While the outcome remains to be seen, one thing is certain: this is an extraordinary exercise of political will in the face of grave stakes.
Part of the rationale for the war on Iran is purportedly that it counteracts China. In light of this, it is more important than ever to immediately stop allowing hundreds of thousands of Chinese nationals into the United States on student visas.
Chinese students in our country receive extended work authorization under the uncapped Optional Practical Training (OPT) program, which gives them the opportunity to spy on our companies and give birth to anchor babies with “birthright citizenship.” This threatens our homeland.
It is fully within President Trump’s power to end OPT; all that is needed is the political will. Therefore, for the sake of our national security, the DHS must rescind its regulatory authorization for the OPT program, and the issuance of student visas to China must stop.
We are calling for decisive action on the home front to match the seriousness of the situation abroad. Brave American soldiers are dying at war with Iran—universities can find a way to make money without selling visas to our adversaries.
